【2018年11月19日】久々の登校

一週間の旅行後、久々の登校日。 

学校行きたくないなーという気持ちでいっぱい。十代の頃と変わらんな。

先生やクラスメイトは好きだけど、やっぱり英語を話さなきゃならないプレッシャーは毎日ある。

でも今日はリーグ・オブ・ジェントルマン(以下TLoG)のDVDの発売日だから、それを支えに肝心な月曜日を乗り越えねば！

休暇中の授業

フランス人のクラスメイトに休んでいた間のノートの画像を撮らせてもらいました。
それによると、文法については好みの説明と比較級を習ったようです。

used to infinitive
used to be adjective
 =past habits/states
Function = Things you DID regularly in the past but don't do now
Ex. I used to live in Paris. / He used to wear T-shirts.
*would + infinitive = past habits but NOT states

to be + used to + verb-ing
to be + used to + noun
 = present habits / states 
Function = sth that is normal because you have lots of experience
Ex. I'm used to teaching. / I'm not used to the weather in London.

to be + getting used to verb-ing
to get used to +verb-ing / noun
Function = sth that is becoming normal because you're doing it a lot.
Ex. I'm getting used to going to the gym. / speaking with English people.

I prefer to infinitive ... than to infinitive
I prefer verb-ing
I prefer noun to noun
 Ex. I prefer to rent than to buy.
       I prefer renting to buying.
       I prefer towns to villages.

I would prefer to infinitive ... than ... 
*not -ing with I'd prefer
 Ex. I'd prefer to rent than (to) buy.
I would rather infinitive ... than ...
 Ex. I'd rather rent than buy.

この日の授業

隣の席のクラスメイトと休暇中に何をして過ごしたかを会話。
私はちょうど旅行してきたところだったので、その話をしたと思います。

文法はVerb Patterns。-ing(gerund) 動名詞とto 不定詞について。

動詞の後に動詞が続く場合、多くの場合が動名詞(-ing)になります。
avoid, enjoy, imagine, keep, miss, suggest などなど。
 Ex. I love watching films. / I enjoy not getting up early.

その他、動名詞は主語として使えたり、前置詞の後におくことができる。
 Ex. Singing is my passion. / I'm good at singing.

その他の場合の多くは、to不定詞に。
agree, ask, need, refuse, seem, want, hope, pretend などなど。
 Ex.  I hope to see you Monday. /  I promise not to tell a lie again.

その他、to 不定詞は形容詞の後におくことができる。
 Ex. I'm happy to share the room with you. / I'm sorry to hear that.

ただしingとto、両方使えるものもあり、

I stopped smoking.
I stopped to smoke.

…この２つのように、同じ動詞で両方間違いではないけれど意味が違うというアレです。
smoking が give up で、to smoke が stop for another activity.
regret, forget, remember, try, quit, need なども意味が分かれる動詞。

私は未だにこの違いは一瞬あれ？っと立ち止まってしまいます。

ところが私宛のDVDは届いておらず。

地下のカウンターで店員さんが何度もチェックしてくれましたが、荷物は届いていませんでした。

Just in case, I went to the shop and a store clerk checked it for me again and again, but it hadn’t arrived. I’m dying to watch it!!

サイン付きの限定品なので、お店にある通常盤を買うわけにもいかず、もうちょっと待ってみることに。とほほ。

帰りにコヴェントガーデン周辺を散歩してきました。

ロンドンもすっかりクリスマスの雰囲気。
明日には届いているといいなー。
